I have to tell you something I wish someone had told me twelve years ago. Biest is bull$hit.
I know. I know. You were trained to use it. You read the same functional medicine textbooks I did. You attended the same conferences where someone explained, with great conviction and a colorful receptor diagram, that estriol is “breast protective,” that it “balances” the estradiol, that combining the two gives your patients the best of both worlds. I drank that same Kool-Aid. For the first two years of my hormone practice, I prescribed Biest to patients. I ordered salivary and urine tests. I gave tiny, carefully calibrated doses. And I was, without realizing it, failing the women sitting across from me.
